Mercer County man sentenced in slaying, abduction
PRINCETON, W.Va. -- A Mercer County man convicted of killing his wife has been sentenced to life with mercy.
Tracy Lee Atwell also received a one-to-five year sentence for the abduction of the couple's 8-year-old daughter.
Atwell had pleaded guilty May 23 to first-degree murder and abduction of a child by a parent or guardian. Media outlets report that the 39-year-old Spanishburg resident was sentenced Wednesday in Mercer County Circuit Court.
The sentences are to run consecutively. Atwell will be eligible for parole on the life sentence in 15 years.
State police say Atwell killed 33-year-old Christina Marie Atwell in April 2012. He then tied up his parents and took his daughter from their home in Camp Creek. Atwell's parents have custody of the child.
