The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center will offer swimming lessons beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Center, 314 Donnally St. The lessons will be held every Tuesday through Friday through July 26. Al-Anon, for friends and family of alcoholics, and Alateen, for teens who deal with the alcoholism and/or drug addiction of a family member or friend, will meet at several locations. Al-Anon meetings are held at 8 p.m. Tuesdays at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1105 Quarrier St.; at noon Wednesdays at the Kanawha County Day Report Center, 900 Christopher St.; and 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Edgewood area at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 819 Somerset Drive. Alateen meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Edgewood area at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 819 Somerset Drive; and noon Fridays at Christ Church, second floor, Quarrier and Morris streets. The Legacy Study Group meets at 7 p.m. Sundays at First Presbyterian Church, 508 Second Ave., South Charleston.
Charleston Theatre Arts Workshop in conjunction with Mountaineer Montessori School is offering three weeks of drama camps for children ages 3 to 12. Hours are from 9 a.m. to noon or from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Full day includes a swimming lesson at the University of Charleston. Week 1 will be held July 15-19, and includes Hiawatha: American Indian and African storytelling, creative movement, drumming and oral expression. Week 2 is held from July 22-26, CATS: singing, poetry, mask-making, creative movement, staging, face painting, and character development. Week 3, July 29-Aug. 2, The Jungle Book: use of scripts, blocking, interacting with other characters in addition to arts and crafts, and creative movement.
