CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A minivan plunged into the Kanawha River before daybreak Friday.

The driver, a woman whose identity was not released by police, was traveling west on Kanawha Boulevard at about 5 a.m. when she lost control, crossed the median and plunged down the embankment into the river, said Charleston Police Cpl. Brian Jones.

Jones said she was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Charleston Fire Department divers hooked tow cables to the submerged minivan so it could be brought back to the Boulevard.
