MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The West Virginia University journalism school is adding a minor this fall to give graduates a competitive edge -- strategic social media.
The program will teach students how to better use social media platforms to engage with and influence a variety of audiences.
Students will take five three-hour courses, including three new online social media courses. They are social media strategy, social media applications and social media campaigns.
Director of online programs Chad Mezera said WVU is committed to preparing students for the jobs of the future.
He said strategic social media skills will be in high demand as more businesses and organizations look for new ways to communicate with their customers and the public.
The school already offers minors in public relations, advertising, health promotion and sport communication.
