State birthday contest winners

The contest, sponsored by the state Department of Commerce, invited students from kindergarten through 12th grade to create birthday cards or videos for the state.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Winners list:

Kindergarten-first grade: Hope Sowers, East Hardy Early Middle, first place; Bryceson Whitt, Peterstown Elementary, second place; Morgan Grose, Mother Goose Land (private school), honorable mention; Celia Sellards-Adkins, Crescent Elementary, honorable mention; Sierra Knight, Back Creek Valley Elementary, honorable mention.

Second-third grade: Chase Lilly, Hamlin Pre K-8, first place; Bradley Hill, Hamlin Pre K-8, second place; Daniel Campa, Suncrest Primary, honorable mention; Jimmy Williams, C.W. Shipley Elementary, honorable mention; Cameron Weaver, North Elementary, honorable mention.

Fourth-fifth grade: Parke Smith, Worthington Elementary, first place; Andrew Liu, Glenville Elementary, second place; Peyton Whitt, Peterstown Elementary, honorable mention; Farrah Chojnacki, Hamlin Pre K-8, honorable mention; Olivia Groves, North Elementary, honorable mention.

Middle school video: Joe Kelly, Charleston Catholic, first place (tie); Lauren Volk, Andrew Jackson Middle, first place (tie).

High school video: Darin Vance, North Fork Christian, first place; Hannah Breen, Morgan Jackson, Lauren Hough, Lewis County High, second place (tie).
