PALESTINE, W.Va. -- A 14-year-old Ohio boy died over the weekend after falling from a wagon at a church camp in Wirt County.
State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous said troopers got a call between 4 and 5 p.m. June 14 to go to the Singing Hills Youth Camp on Singing Hills Road after a 14-year-old boy from Akron reportedly fell from a wagon and suffered head injuries. Baylous said the youth was taken to CAMC General Hospital in Charleston, where he was pronounced dead.
"It appears to us that it was an accident and nothing else," Baylous said.
State Police are withholding the boy's name, but the Akron Beacon Journal newspaper identified the victim as Andrew Michael Gochenour, a student at Coventry Junior High School.
Andrew is survived by parents, Michael and Vanessa Gochenour, two sisters and a brother, according to the newspaper. Funeral services are scheduled for noon Saturday at the Lords House of Prayer Church, 6105 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio.
