Bulletin board: July 10, 2013

Open stage

Ron Sowell's Open Stage and Coffee House, with guest host Roger Rabatais, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Unity of Kanawha Valley, 804 Myrtle Road, corner of Bridge and Myrtle roads. Local musicians are welcome to come and share their talents in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. The performers sign up at 7 p.m. and the music begins at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $5. Admission for performers, seniors and children is $2. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade treats are available at a small cost. 

Entrepreneur cafe 

Unlimited Future Inc. announces this month's Entrepreneurs' Cafe, to be held at noon July 17 at the Cabell County Public Library, 455 Ninth Street Plaza, Huntington. Lunch, provided by Rocco's Little Italy, will be served in the third floor meeting room. The cost of attendance is $15 -- $10 goes to the winning presenter and $5 to the caterer. Presenter will be Jacob Mitchell of Chalkboard Fun & Games. Also presenting will be Andrew Daniels of E.K.K, LLC and Tonyia Ward of Tonyia's Steel Magnolias Salon & Spa. Diabetes class

FamilyCare HealthCenter will offer a Diabetes Class from 9 a.m. to noon July 18 at its location, Patrick Street Conference Room. Certified diabetes educator, Grace Gibson, will help those who want to learn more about diabetes, meal planning, carb counting, label reading, medications and complication prevention in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Attendance is free. Giveaways and refreshments are provided. Registration is requested by calling 304-720-4851, ext 8131.

Poker run

Burning Rock Outdoor Adventure Park, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, will host a poker run to raise funds for cancer research at 9 a.m. July 20 at the park. Immediately following the poker run will be an awards ceremony featuring cash prizes and a family cookout at the Burning Rock trailhead.
