Tomblin seeks federal aid for storm recovery
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin is asking for federal assistance to help with recovery and repair efforts in central West Virginia following storms earlier this summer.
Tomblin is seeking a major disaster declaration following the mid-June storms that resulted in flooding, landslides and mudslides.
Officials say that the declaration would provide help to individuals, businesses and local government agencies in Roane County.
Public assistance also would provide help to local government agencies in Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Lewis and Mason counties.
Tomblin says the storms were particularly destructive in the city of Spencer. And in nearby Mason County, local farmers, buses, mail delivery and local residents were affected by the closure of a highly traveled bridge.
