Fairmont State alumnus bequeaths $730,000 to school
FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- An alumnus has bequeathed $730,000 to the Fairmont State Foundation Inc. for student scholarships.
The late William Claude "Bill" Waters died in July 2012 at age 93. He had previously donated more than $63,000 to the school.
Fairmont State President Maria Rose says in a news release that the university is grateful for Waters' support.
He earned a bachelor's degree in education from the school, then called Fairmont State College, in 1946. He later earned his master's in education from West Virginia University.
Waters bequeathed more than $730,000 to WVU.
He was employed with the Monongalia County Board of Education, eventually becoming assistant superintendent of schools. He later worked for and retired from Merrill Publishing Company where he was a schoolbook salesman.
