Kroger operates stores coast to coast, except for Minnesota, North Dakota, Oklahoma and the New England states. Many Kroger stores do business under other names, since Kroger keeps the existing names of stores when they buy existing chains.
Those store names, York said, include Fry's in Arizona; Ralph's and Food-4-Less in California; Smith's in Nevada and Utah; Fred Meyer in the Northwest; and King Super in Denver. Kroger is completing its recent acquisition of Harris Teeter Supermarkets, which operates stores in mid-Atlantic and Southeastern states.
