CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A longtime West Virginia reporter was named communications director for the state Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety on Tuesday.
Lawrence Messina, who has covered state government for The Associated Press since 2002, will begin his new job on Aug. 12. Before working for the AP, Messina worked for The Charleston Gazette from 1993 to 2002. He graduated from Wheeling Jesuit University in 1991.
Also Tuesday, Allison Adler was named as communications director for the state Department of Health and Human Resources.
Adler was most recently head of communications for the wvOASIS Project, which aims to streamline the state's administrative functions. Among other jobs, she has also worked at the state Higher Education Policy Commission and in the governor's office during the Gaston Caperton administration.
