JEFFERSON, W.Va. -- A Kanawha County man ended up in the hospital late Monday after allegedly taking his kids to a bar in Jefferson.
Kanawha County Sheriff's Cpl. Brian Humphreys said deputies went to an apartment at the Rustic Motel in Jefferson about 9:15 p.m. to investigate a stabbing. When they got there, they found LaSalle Burnett, 31, bleeding from several cuts.
Humphreys said Burnett was drunk and couldn't tell deputies what had happened, but police tracked down Willis McLemore, 62, of South Charleston and his daughter, Amber McLemore, 25, of Nitro, who were able to provide details.
Amber McLemore and Burnett have several children together, Humphreys said in a news release. Amber McLemore told deputies Burnett was supposed to be watching the children, but took them to a bar while he got drunk.
She and her father then came to get the children, finding Burnett at the Rustic Motel. Humphreys said Burnett allegedly tried to attack Willis McLemore, who pulled out a pocketknife to defend himself, Humphreys said.
Humphreys said Willis McLemore allegedly cut Burnett several times with the knife. He and his daughter were able to get the children into the car, but an inebriated Burnett allegedly lay across the hood of the vehicle in apparent attempt to keep them from leaving.
The McLemores left Burnett lying on the ground in the parking lot, where he was later found by deputies.
Charges had not been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
