CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- After a turbulent year, Charleston's multicultural festival is on track for another three-day run.
The 24th Multifest is set for Aug. 2-4. The Charleston Daily Mail reported the festival's executive committee has assembled a slate of 22 musical acts.
The event's future appeared in doubt earlier this year after festival treasurer Deborah Starks pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $300,000 in Multifest funds and was sentenced to two months in federal prison.Because of the embezzlement, Charleston and Kanawha County officials threatened to pull their share of funding for the event. After a new board of directors put financial safeguards in place, the localities reconsidered and committed $15,000 each to Multifest.
