2 inmates escape from Pocahontas prison
HILLSBORO, W.Va. -- Authorities are searching for two inmates who escaped from the Denmar Correctional Center in Pocahontas County.
Warden Mark Williamson said Thomas Pennington and Larry Morehead were discovered missing early Sunday during a regular check.
Williamson said prison officials believe the inmates scaled a chain-link fence at the rear of the prison. There is razor wire at the top and bottom of the fence.
Electronic message boards along Interstate 64 in Raleigh, Summers and Greenbrier counties were warning motorists to not pick up hitchhikers.
Pennington, 40, is serving a sentence for first-degree murder and arson charges in Kanawha County. Morehead, 48, is serving a sentence for sexual assault in Nicholas County.
