RAINELLE, W.Va. -- The town of Rainelle is being sued by two former police officers who say they were wrongfully terminated.
Michael Harper and Thomas Lowe say in separate lawsuits that their terminations were arbitrary and politically motivated. They each contend that the town violated state law by not giving them notice. They also say they weren't given an opportunity to be heard before they were terminated.
The town denies the allegations in a response filed last week to Harper's lawsuit. The town hasn't yet responded to Lowe's lawsuit.
Rainelle Mayor Andrea Pendleton told The Register-Herald that she's aware of the lawsuits but she declined to comment on them.
Hearings have not yet been scheduled.
