Amateur radio gathering coming up in Huntington

By Staff reports

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Tri-State Amateur Radio Association will hold its 51st annual Hamfest from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 10 at Christ Temple Church Life and Health Center, 2400 Johnstown Road, Huntington. Admission is $6.

The event lets licensed amateur radio enthusiasts meet face to face with other people whom they only may have communicated with over the radios they use. Amateurs can purchase new or used equipment or supplies that are not readily available in the area from other "hams" or from dealers.

Representatives of the American Radio Relay League will be on hand for those interested in obtaining more information about the hobby. Amateur radio license FCC testing will be available. Registration for exams begins at 10 a.m. and applicants must arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. A fee of $15 will be charged per test.

For information on testing, email Garry Ritchie at W8OI@aol.com or 304-733-1300. For information about Hamfest, email Mark Killen at MarkKD8QIG@gmail.com, Fred Herr at WD8AGH@gmail.com or Judy Taylor for vendor information at WD8EOP@gmail.com.
