Country's Pickler to sing in Huntington for breast cancer fundraiser
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- "Dancing with the Stars" winner and country singer Kellie Pickler is coming to Huntington for a "PATH to the Cure" concert on Sept. 29.
The concert is in conjunction with the PATH to the Cure 5K Run/Walk, to be held Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. The concert with Pickler will follow.
PATH to the Cure was started in 2011 to bring attention to the fight against breast cancer and to raise money for uninsured and underinsured women to get mammograms at St. Mary's Breast Center in Huntington.
A portion of the proceeds raised also will benefit the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health (PATH), to help promote fitness in the Huntington community.
Pickler, a former "American Idol" contestant, has been active with charity work throughout her career. Last year, she brought national attention to breast cancer after she shaved her head in a show of support for a friend who was diagnosed with the disease.
All participants in the PATH to the Cure race will be admitted free to the concert immediately after the 5K run/walk. Tickets are $27 for those not participating.
Registration for the race is underway. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.
