Security guard shot at while guarding mining equipment
EAST BANK, W.Va. -- A security guard was shot at late Wednesday night while guarding mining equipment near East Bank.
Garfield Stone Jr., of Charleston, a guard for TMK Security Company, was sitting in his truck near a wooded area when an unknown suspect approached on a side-by-side utility vehicle and fired two shots from 50 yards before fleeing back into the woods.
Stone was not injured and fled the scene, although his truck suffered damage from the shots. Capt. Sean Crosier of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said the investigation is still ongoing.
"We searched the area thoroughly, but because he was on an all-terrain vehicle we weren't able to access all of the area he was," Crosier said.
