FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Police in Marion County are searching for a jail inmate who swapped identification bracelets and clothing with another inmate and then was released on home confinement.
State Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety spokesman Lawrence Messina said Kevin Gregory, of Fairmont, walked out of the Marion County Courthouse on Tuesday.
Messina said North Central Regional Jail inmate Bruce Clayton was scheduled to be in court in Marion County. But Gregory appeared in court instead of Clayton, bypassed a reporting center after his appearance and walked out of the courthouse in street clothes.
The Marion County Sheriff's Department is looking for Gregory, who was arrested in June for failing to register as a sex offender in Virginia.
Gregory was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue T-shirt. He's described as being 5-foot-11 and weighing 225 pounds.
