Country western dance
Robert Tripplett and Starlight Band will perform at 6 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Nitro Senior Citizens' monthly Country Western Dance held at the Center, located at 21st Street and Second Avenue in Nitro. Concessions start at 5 p.m. Admission is by donation. Proceeds go to the Nitro Seniors Activity Fund.
Homebuyer education workshop
The Kanawha Institute for Social Research & Action, KISRA's Economic Empowerment Initiative will offer a Homebuyer Education Workshop from 4 to 9 p.m. Aug. 20 at the KISRA Empowerment Center, 131 Perkins Ave., Dunbar. FamilyCare HealthCenter will offer a free Diabetes Class from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Patrick Street location and from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Teays Valley location. Certified Diabetes Educator, Grace Gibson will discuss meal planning, carb counting, label reading, medications and complication prevention in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Putnam Farmers Market will sponsor a Watermelon Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 24 at the market located in Hurricane. Other activities will be held throughout the day.
