BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) - It's been more than 60 years since a woman was found dead along a road in Morgan County, and police still don't know who she was.
The case that came to be known as the Redhead Murder Case remains open.
West Virginia State Police Sgt. Danny Swiger worked on the case as a cold case investigator for a number of years. He tells The Journal that thousands of hours were put into the case. But the woman's identity remains unknown.
The woman's nude body was found on May 10, 1950, along old U.S. 522. She had been strangled.
In 2007, her body was exhumed and a DNA profile was created after two families inquired about the case. The DNA didn't match either family.
