ANMOORE, W.Va. -- Anmoore Town Council members say the town's financial problems are due to a lack of checks and balances and a lack of oversight.
Council members also say the problems will be corrected.
"This is not our first time is the bad thing, but hopefully it will be our last," council member Shawn Fragmin said.
Media outlets reported that the council discussed the town's financial issues at its meeting Monday night. Council members said Anmoore owes an estimated $375,000 in unpaid debts and taxes.
Council members Heather Gillespie and Anna Harvey said they called the town's debtors, including utility companies, to determine how much the town owes.
"I'm only going to move forward," Gillespie said. "I'm not going to be bogged down by all this nonsensem because that's what it is, is nonsense."
Mayor Eddie Hartman said the council thought the town's finances were in order when it gave town employees supplemental pay in June.
