NEW HAVEN, W.Va. -- Felman Production LLC is laying off about 100 employees at its ferroalloys plant in New Haven. The cuts are effective Aug. 31.
The company said in a news release it has been monitoring market conditions since it temporarily suspended operations June 28. The decision to further reduce its workforce was based on continuing high manufacturing costs and low prices for its product -- a deoxidizer and alloy additive used to manufacture steel. The company had laid off 38 employees in May.
About 100 employees will remain at the plant. Felman will continue to operate its slag processing operation.
The company says it is reviewing options to ensure its long-term viability.
