Providence Baptist Church, Rocky Step Road, Scott Depot, will have its homecoming Sunday at the church. Sunday school starts at 10 a.m. followed by a worship service at 11 a.m. Dinner will be served at noon. Bring a covered dish. Singing begins at 1:30 p.m. and Born of the Spirit will sing. There will be no Sunday evening service.
Maranatha Bible Missionary Baptist Church, 504 King Ave., Madison, will have first lady appreciation day for Cassandra Woods at 3 p.m. today at the church as part of the Second Pastoral anniversary for the Rev. Shawn P. Woods. Guest speaker will be Minister Tamika Henry of Central Community Tabernacle Church, Charleston. The service culminates Sunday with the Rev. Richard Sparks speaking at 11 a.m. and the Rev. James Jackson Sr., choir and congregation of Levi First Missionary Baptist Church, Rand, as speaker at the 3:30 p.m. service. Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate pre-anniversary activities leading up to the 93rd church anniversary. Marshall Arts Enterprise Photography will be taking photo shots from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 31. Family and individual pictures are available for a fee, along with other photo packages offered. The 63rd Annual West Virginia Mountain State Gospel Singers Convention will be held 7 p.m. nightly, Aug. 30-Sept. 1, Labor Day weekend. All singers are welcome. Free camping is available. Donations will be accepted for the sing, which includes soloists, duets, trios and quartets. Special invitation only singing for trios and quartets will be held from 2 to 11 p.m. Sept. 7. There are 12 singing groups selected by Convention Board of Directors and each has 30-minute singing rounds. Guests are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts and stay following the dinner for a game of Tri Peak Solitaire with prizes to be awarded. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at the door.
