CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Rick Thompson, the new secretary of the state Department of Veterans Assistance, will host a listening tour in five cities across the state to find out about the thoughts and concerns of veterans in the state.
All events will be open to the public, and veterans' organizations, individuals and military families are encouraged to participate.
"In order for veterans to utilize our services, they must be made aware of what our department has to offer. Likewise if we are to successfully serve the veterans of West Virginia, we must fully understand their most pressing needs," Thompson said in a statement.
The schedule of the listening tour:
• Sept. 11, 1 p.m.; Raleigh County Commission on Aging; 1614 South Kanawha St., Beckley.
• Sept. 12, 1 p.m.; American Legion Post 177; 6024 U.S. 60 East, Barboursville.
• Sept. 18, 5 p.m.; VFW Post 573; 430 West Pike St., Clarksburg.
• Sept. 19, 4 p.m.; American Legion Post 14; 125 West Race St., Martinsburg.• Sept. 26, 4 p.m.; American Legion Post 3; 800 1st St., Moundsville.
