Team recovers guns stolen from police department
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. -- At least three weapons stolen during a break-in at the Stonewood Police Department have been recovered through an undercover buyback operation.
Chairman John Walker said the Greater Harrison Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force worked through Monday night and Tuesday morning to recover a .45 caliber handgun, an M-14 rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun. Stonewood has only one officer.
Authorities have charged Dominic Sutherlin, 28, with three counts of transferring stolen firearms and distribution of a controlled substance. He was being held at the North Central Regional Jail on $200,000 bond Tuesday.
It was not immediately clear whether Sutherlin has an attorney.
Walker said Sutherlin was arrested while trying to sell the painkiller hydrocodone.
Harrison County Sheriff Albert Marano told the Exponent Telegram nine other stolen weapons also were recovered.
