FestivALL Fall teams up again with HallowEast for autumn fun
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- For the second year in a row, planners for FestivALL and East End Main Street's HallowEast celebrations are teaming up for a series of fall events in Charleston.
Organizers of both events are coordinating activities for some fall fun from Oct. 23 through Oct. 27.
"By having different events and building on that, you make all of it better," said Charleston city spokesman Rod Blackstone. Blackstone said FestivALL Fall and HallowEast are "pyramidding" off of one another to create a combination of events to attract visitors to Charleston.
HallowEast, based in the city's East End, runs Oct. 23-26. Ric Cavender, East End Main Street's executive director, said new events added to the 5-year-old festival include a "Run Like Hell Zombie 5k Run/Walk" scheduled for Oct. 26.
HallowEast also features a murder mystery held at the Charleston Women's Club on Oct. 23, the ArtMares horror-themed art show on display through Oct. 25 at Contemporary Galleries, the annual Zombie Walk on Oct. 26 and a costume pub crawl of East End bars on Oct. 26.
Brittany Javins, assistant director of FestivALL, said the fall event mimics summer FestivALL events but with an autumn twist. FestivALL Fall runs Oct. 25-27.
Highlights include a Fall Ball at Haddad Riverfront Park on Oct. 25 that features music from Hybrid Soul and Stratus, a special "Mountain Stage" performance on Oct. 27, a juried indoor art show at the Charleston Women's Club Oct. on 25 and 26 and a Carriage Trail Leaf Walk that includes live music, art and theater performances.
Between art shows at the Women's Club and Contemporary Galleries, the works of about 70 local artists will be on display during the week, planners said.
Event planners also are coordinating with the Clay Center for the Jonas Brothers concert on Oct. 25 and with the West Virginia International Film Festival, Kanawha County Public Library and Charleston Community Music Association, which is presenting an Oct. 27 concert of music made famous by the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
FestivALL director Larry Groce said a complete schedule of fall events will be posted on the FestivALL website, www.festivallcharleston.com, within two weeks. Flyers also will be printed listing the schedule.
