Wayne County senator honored for promoting pre-K education
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- State Sen. Robert Plymale, D-Wayne, has been honored for his work promoting the education of young children.
The state Department of Education said Plymale has received the 2013 West Virginia Champion of Universal Pre-K Award.
Plymale has served as the chairman of the Senate Education Committee since 2002. He's been a leading supporter of the Universal Pre-K program in West Virginia.
State law required universal preschool to be available to all of the state's 4-year-olds by the 2012-13 school year. Nearly 16,000 children attended pre-K programs across the state last year.
