PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- West Virginians will soon have another farmers market to shop just in time for the fall and winter season.
State Department of Agriculture Commissioner Walt Helmick said the new farmers market will open Oct. 5 in Parkersburg. It'll be open the first Saturday of the month through April.
The market will be in what was formerly the Swan Hotel in the city's historic downtown. The building was obtained by the city after trading a parking lot for the property.
At an event this week, Helmick said West Virginia consumes more than $7 billion of food products annually but only grows a half-billion.
