WILLIAMSON, W.Va. -- Mingo County's prosecutor said he'll recommend the reinstatement of a sheriff's sergeant when a new sheriff takes office.
Prosecuting Attorney Michael Sparks told media outlets that misconduct was the official reason given for Sgt. Arthur Farra's firing in February by Sheriff Eugene Crum.
But the prosecutor recently learned about new information that might have contributed to the dismissal. Sparks declined to specify the new information or details about the firing but said Farra was terminated for "less than credible reasons."
Sparks said he has contacted Farra's attorney and will recommend that Farra be reinstated with back pay.
Crum was shot dead April 3 while eating lunch in his car in downtown Williamson. Interviews are being conducted to choose a permanent sheriff.
