Mayor of Pratt under investigation
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Pratt Mayor Gary Fields is under investigation by Kanawha County prosecutors and State Police.
State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous confirmed Monday that Fields was pulled over by state troopers on Paint Creek Road on Aug. 29. Baylous would not say why Fields was stopped, but said the traffic stop has led to a criminal investigation.
Baylous said the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed against the mayor.
Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Plants also confirmed the ongoing investigation.
"Once the investigation is complete we'll review the evidence and determine whether there are any criminal violations," he said.
Members of Pratt Town Council are aware of the investigation.
Councilwoman Kaye Ford said she understands that Fields has been pulled over by police.
Fields declined comment on Monday. "There's really nothing to say," he said.
However, Ford expects the investigation to come up at a regular Pratt Town Council meeting scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. She said council members may ask Fields to step down as mayor.
"We can't have this; it isn't good for any town," Ford said. "It's got to end."
