WVSU to inaugurate president after year on the job

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State University's president will be inaugurated after more than a year on the job.

The investiture ceremony for Brian O. Hemphill is set for Sept. 21. He was named to the position in May 2012, and began his duties the following July.

Hemphill came to the Institute campus after eight years as a vice president and associate professor at Northern Illinois University.

The ceremony will feature remarks from political and higher education leaders. Among them are Kay Goodwin, Cabinet secretary for the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts; and Paul Hill, chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

Tickets are required to attend the ceremony, and seating is limited.
