Open Stage and Coffee House
Ron Sowell's Open Stage and Coffee House will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Unity of Kanawha Valley, 804 Myrtle Road, corner of Bridge and Myrtle roads. All local musicians are welcome to come and share their talents in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. The performers sign up at 7 p.m. General admission is $5. Admission for performers, seniors, and children is $2. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade treats are available at a small cost. Ron Sowell's Open Stage and Coffee House takes place on the second Friday of every month.
West Virginia Institute for Spirituality will have a new program for directors Friday and Saturday at 1601 Virginia St. E. The program helps prepare spiritual directors for ministry in parish communities and religious congregations. The ongoing Associate Program provides "hands-on" experience of praying with Scripture, a holistic approach to spirituality and the tools and skills to qualify them for the ministry. Unity of Kanawha Valley will host a Laughter Yoga class at 10 a.m. Saturday at its location, 804 Myrtle Road. The class is offered on a love-offering basis with all proceeds going to Unity. Laughter Yoga combines yoga, stretching, clapping and laughter. Janet Prince leads the class. Laughter Yoga is offered on the second Saturday of each month at Unity.
Kanawha State Forest Foundation will sponsor the Margaret Denison Fall Nature Walks, "Farewell to Summer," at 9 a.m. Saturday at Kanawha State Forest. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. near the swimming pool. The cost is $5 for adults and $2 for children. Bring your own camera if you wish to capture wildflowers, fungi, birds, pond/aquatic life, trees and more. An auto tour is available for limited ability walkers. Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike, annual meeting and picnic Sunday. Meet at 12:30 p.m. to carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at Kanawha Trail Club Lodge. The hike is approximately 3 miles on Kanawha State Forests' Lindy/Middle Ridge/Polecat trails with steep ascent and descent. About 3 p.m., a picnic and meeting will take place in the lodge. Bring a side dish or dessert to share. Meat and drinks are provided.
Marmet Community Recreation Center will sponsor the Charleston Area Reptile Expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the center, located at 8505 MacCorkle Ave., Marmet. Admission is $7. For information, call 717-432-5807 or on Facebook at Charleston Area Reptile Expo.
