INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- Former prisoner of war Jessica Lynch will be the keynote speaker at a West Virginia State University leadership summit for high school students.
The Upward Bound program's annual event is set for Saturday. High school students and parents will have the opportunity to attend workshops on subjects including preparing for college and finding scholarships before Lynch speaks at the noon luncheon.
Lynch was 19 when she was captured along with five others after the U.S. Army's 570th Maintenance Company took a wrong turn and came under attack in Iraq in 2003. She was held for nine days before she was rescued. The West Virginia native now speaks to groups around the country about perseverance and overcoming obstacles.
