CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The state Board of Education wants Fayette County school officials to hold off plans to consolidate Meadow Bridge High School with two other schools.
The consolidation is part of the county's comprehensive education facilities. Meadow Bridge would be merged with Fayetteville and Midland Trail high schools.
On Wednesday, the state board asked the county to amend the plan and remove Meadow Bridge from the consolidation for a year.
Board members also asked Fayette County Schools Superintendent Keith Butcher to conduct a study on how to best serve the education needs of Meadow Bridge students. The study will include the feasibility of students crossing county lines to attend schools in Greenbrier and Summers counties.
The state took over the school system in 2010.
