Birds of prey
After the nature walks at Kanawha State Forest Saturday morning, Ron and Wendy Perrone, from Three Rivers Avian Center, will give a presentation about birds of prey using live hawks, owls and an eagle. Bob Evans Restaurants will sponsor a "Dine to make a difference" community fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 and 20 at participating Bob Evans restaurants. The restaurant will donate 15 percent of its sales when customers present a flier at the time they pay their bill. Participating restaurants are in downtown Huntington, Kinetic Park in Huntington, Huntington Mall, Hurricane, Cross Lanes, South Charleston and Kanawha City. Trappers Association convention
The West Virginia Trappers Association's 45th Annual Convention will be held Sept. 20-22 at the Gilmer County Recreation Center in Glenville. The WVTA Hall of Fame Dinner will be held Sept. 20 as well as a board meeting. Demos will be featured Sept. 20 and 21. Trapper education classes will be held on Saturday. Kanawha Valley Church in Huntington is sponsoring a pancake breakfast fundraiser to help support the family of Audrey Burnett, a 4-year-old brain cancer patient. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at Happy Days Cafe in South Charleston. The cost is $5, and donations are welcome. The Upshur Arts Alliance, which sponsors the Strawberry Festival Juried Art Show, is seeking donations to purchase new displays for artists who show their work within the community. The expected cost is $2,500 for 12 units, hardware and shipping. Any business or individual donating more than $500 to this project may request to have a sponsor sign attached to one of the stands for the following year. Excess funds received during this drive will go to the annually awarded grant fund.
