NITRO, W.Va. -- A Kanawha County man was in jail Friday after allegedly beating his estranged girlfriend and holding her captive in Nitro.
Nitro police went to a home on Broadway Avenue about 10:30 p.m. Thursday to check on a woman at the house, according to Nitro Police Deputy Chief Maj. Dave Richardson. He said officers were familiar with the residence from several past domestic situations.
Officers arriving at the house found the living area to be in disarray, making them think there might have been a fight in the room, Richardson said. When they went inside, a woman ran and hid behind the officers.
Officers then saw Larry Michael Brown, 44, the woman's estranged boyfriend. Richardson said an active domestic violence petition was on file for Brown.
Richardson said the woman told police Brown had come into the house uninvited, physically assaulted her and held her against her will for more than an hour before she could call for help.
Brown was arrested and charged with kidnapping and burglary. He was in the South Central Regional Jail on Friday with bail set at $100,000.
