Fire crews investigate suspicious West Side blaze

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charleston firefighters are investigating a suspicous fire that broke out this morning on the city's West Side.

According to a Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher, the fire was originally reported about 6:30 a.m. at Charleston Department Store. But Charleston Fire Chief Charles Overstreet said the fire was really in an abandoned cinderblock building behind the store.

Overstreet said the building had housed a church at one time, but was boarded up at the time of the fire and had no utility service. Firefighters are treating the fire as suspicious.

No one was hurt.
