WVSP launching fast-track cadet program
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia State Police have created a program to put cadets on the fast track.
Announced Tuesday by Col. C.R. "Jay'' Smithers, the Accelerated Cadet Program is intended to address manpower issues by getting cadets into the field at a faster clip.
The program involves 11 weeks of training at the State Police Academy, cutting by more than half the usual 25-week training program. Applicants must have successfully completed the basic program at the academy. Smithers said the accelerated program allows qualified prospects to skip over training they already completed in the basic program, and gets more troopers in the field.
