Police settle on suspect in West Side break-ins
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charleston police believe they have a suspect in a rash of car break-ins on the city's West Side.
Sgt. Tony Hazelett of the Charleston Police Department said multiple cars were broken into in the Edgewood Drive and Summit Drive areas Sept. 14 and 15. Hazelett said the suspect was targeting unlocked cars and vehicles that had valuables in plain sight.
Hazelett said police believe they know who the suspect is and they expect an arrest soon.
Hazelett said other vehicles may have been broken into around the same time but not reported to police. Victims are encouraged to call 304-348-6400 or 304-348-6480 to file a police report, regardless of the value of the items stolen.
Police remind city residents to lock their car doors and not leave valuables out where they can be seen.
