CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Washington Post reporter whose story about a White House butler led to a Hollywood movie will kick off a speaker series Tuesday at the University of Charleston.
Wil Haygood will host a book signing and discussion at UC's Riggleman Hall. He will sign books from 5 to 6 p.m., and will speak at 6:30 p.m.
Haygood wrote a 2008 article for the Washington Post about the life of Eugene Allen, the butler who served eight presidents. He later wrote a book about Allen.
Allen is the subject of "Lee Daniels' The Butler.'' North American ticket sales for the Weinstein Co. film surpassed $100 million this month.
Haygood's career brought him to Charleston in the early 1980s, when he worked for The Charleston Gazette as a copy editor and writer for two years.
