WESTON -- Lewis County Sheriff Adam Gissy says investigators get tips almost daily in the continuing search for a 3-year-old girl who vanished from her family's home near Bendale two years ago Tuesday.
A fresh lead offered Tuesday morning, he said, conforms to "a working theory we have been looking at for a few months now.'' He would not elaborate.
Aliayah Lunsford vanished the morning of Sept. 24, 2011, and family members are still praying for some definitive resolution.
Authorities have made no arrests and identified no suspects. The FBI has refused to say whether agents believe Aliayah is still alive, but it has offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to her recovery or an arrest.
"I still feel there is a chance we can crack this case,'' Gissy said.
The girl's mother, Lena Lunsford, spent eight months in prison for welfare fraud after her daughter vanished.
Aliayah's siblings are in state custody.
