Police seek Ohio man in Elkview car theft

By Staff reports

ELKVIEW, W.Va. -- Kanawha County sheriff's deputies are looking for an Ohio man they said stole a car in Elkview on Tuesday morning.

Anthony Konopinski, 21, of Seville, Ohio, is wanted for grand larceny, said Cpl. Brian Humphreys in a news release. Konopinski is also wanted for numerous charges in Ohio.

An 84-year-old man filled up his 2001 Nissan Sentra at the Kroger Fuel Center at Crossing's Mall in Elkview at about 9:42 a.m., Humphreys said. A man, later identified as Konopinski, jumped in the man's car and took off while the man was at the cashier's window, Humphreys said. Deputies identified Konopinski after reviewing security footage and interviewing witnesses.

Konopinski is known to have relatives in Morgantown and Logan, Humphreys said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department at 304-357-0169. Deputy S.W. Hunter is investigating.
