Cpl. Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said Heather Marchal, 29, of Campbells Creek, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup about 2:30 p.m. Sept. 29 when she slammed into the back of a vehicle stopped at the intersection of U.S. 60 and Quincy Hollow. Humphreys said the impact forced the vehicle into a vehicle in front of it, damaging all three vehicles.
Humphreys said Marchal's five children were riding in the truck. Marchal, all five children and four people from the other cars were all taken to the hospital.
Deputies allegedly found a substance they believe is heroin in Marchal's Chevrolet. The substance was sent to the West Virginia State Police laboratory for testing.
Humphreys also said there were questions about the proper use of child safety seats in the Silverado. Sheriff's deputies and officials for Child Protective Services are investigating.
