5k walk Saturday will benefit breast cancer research

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Breast cancer survivors, their family and friends will participate in a charity 5k walk Saturday morning in Charleston.

Registration for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Columbia NiSource Gas Building at 1700 MacCorkle Ave. Southeast. The walk will begin there at 10:30 a.m.

The event raises awareness and funds to benefit breast cancer research. More than 232,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year and nearly 40,000 will die from the disease.
