WEIRTON, W.Va. -- The Weirton Area Port Authority has been dissolved by the state.
Weirton Mayor George Kondik says in a statement that the West Virginia Public Port Authority voted unanimously to rescind all duties and powers that it had granted to the Weirton authority.
Kondik had asked the state authority in late September to dissolve the Weirton authority. He cited concerns over lawsuits and allegations of non-payment or delinquent payment to vendors.
Weirton city attorney Vince Gurrera tells The Weirton Daily Times that City Council will be asked to consider rescinding an ordinance authorizing appointments to the Wheeling port authority's board. The council's next meeting is Monday night.
