CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The St. Albans Ministerial Association and St. Mark's Episcopal Church are sponsoring the annual Walk Against Hunger/5K Run and Fall Fun Day Oct. 19.
The event was organized more than 20 years ago to help support area food banks and shelters. Proceeds, derived from entry fees and donations, go to support Jericho House and the St. Mark's Jubilee Center.
Race and walk registration begins at 7 a.m., with the timed race starting at 8:15 a.m. Walkers, timed or untimed, begin at 8:20 a.m. More than 70 people have already registered for the event, organizers said.
A Fall Fun Day is also scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 405 B. St., St. Albans. Admission is free.Hot dogs and drinks will be served. Events sponsored by area churches include face painting, a pumpkin patch, cake walk and Gospel sing. A climbing wall, inflatable jump house and safety exhibits from the St. Albans Fire Department and Kanawha County Sheriff's Department are also planned.
