Historic Martinsburg house to be sold at auction
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Martinsburg estate that was owned by a single family for eight generations will be sold at auction next month.
Spring Hill Farm was originally deeded to the Harlan family by Lord Fairfax in 1760. Thirty-four members of the family were born in the Spring Hill House, which is part of the 134-acre estate.
Woltz & Associates is managing the Nov. 6 sale. Company president Jim Woltz said that in today's world, it almost defies imagination to think of a property remaining in one family for centuries.
The estate is being offered in five tracts. The largest is 74 acres. It includes Spring Hill House, three other houses, and outbuildings.
The other four tracts range from 2.3 acres to 37 acres. One includes a house built in 1917.
