CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Interstate 79 was briefly closed Monday morning following a rockslide that damaged several vehicles.
State Division of Highways spokeswoman Carrie Bly said the slide happened a little after 6 a.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 79 between the Mink Shoals exit and the Interstate 77 split. A Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher said seven vehicles were damaged.
The slide closed both southbound lanes, Bly said, but the road reopened shortly after 8 a.m.
"It could have been a lot worse," she said. "The biggest boulders didn't fall in the traveling lanes. ... The cleanup really didn't take much."
