Used book sale
Kanawha County Public Library will have its annual Used Book Sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday in the North Hall of the Charleston Civic Center. The sale will re-open from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday for a bag/book sale when items can be purchased for $2 per bag or $5 per box. The sale is normally held during the West Virginia Book Festival, which was canceled this year. Items include books, music, movies and more.
A cancer fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Capital Flea Market, 2101 Greenbrier St. Singing, a pumpkin decorating contest, pick-a-duck game, door prizes and more will be featured. A bake sale will be held Sunday at the flea market. For information, call 304-342-1626.
The 26th annual Buffalo Octoberfest will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at an area located one mile north of the Toyota plant in Buffalo, Putnam County. Food, music, crafts, apple butter, animals, contests, living history, Octoberfest Family Fun Fest, WVU Tailgate Tent, "Cruise In" and more will be featured. Everything is free.
Walk Against Hunger/5K Run and Fall Fun Day
On behalf of the St. Albans Ministerial Association, St. Mark's Episcopal Church will host the St. Albans Walk Against Hunger/5K Run on Oct. 19 at the Loop Plaza in St. Albans. Sign-ups begin at 7 a.m. with the blessing at 8 a.m. Runners start at 8:15 a.m. and followed by the walkers at 8:20 a.m. The Fall Fun Day begins at 11 a.m. There will be free admission, hot dogs and drinks, face painting, a pumpkin patch, cakewalk, inflatables, a gospel sing and more. Local churches will participate in the Fun Day. All proceeds benefit the Jericho House and St. Mark's Jubilee Center, Christ Kitchen, St. Albans Community Food Pantry and the Emergency Assistance Fund. The Rubberifics Rubber Stamping Club will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the South Charleston Public Library. The topic is Matchbox Coffee Table Creations. Anyone interested in stamping is invited to attend. For information, call 304-342-7552.
